Channel Ecosystem & Roles

What Is an ISV (Independent Software Vendor)?

An ISV, or independent software vendor, builds and sells its own software products - applications, platforms or tools - independent of any single hardware vendor. ISVs reach customers directly and through channel partners, cloud marketplaces and integrations, and many run their own partner programs with incentives for reselling or deploying their software.

Why it matters to IT channel partners. ISVs add another layer of programs to a partner's rebate picture. A partner reselling or deploying ISV software earns incentives, margin and co-op from those programs alongside hardware vendor rebates. As software and subscription revenue grows in the channel, tracking ISV incentives in the same partner-side view as hardware rebates matters more.

An ISV develops and sells its own software independently of hardware makers, reaching customers directly and through channel partners and marketplaces.
