Rebate & Incentive Mechanics

Incentive Types: Bonus, Reward, Voucher, Credit Memo

Vendor incentives are paid in several forms, and the form determines how usable the value is. A bonus is extra money for hitting a goal. A reward is often points or perks redeemable through a program. A voucher is credit redeemable against specific purchases. A credit memo offsets a future invoice with the vendor rather than paying cash.

Why it matters to IT channel partners. The same headline figure is worth very different amounts depending on its form: cash and bonuses are unrestricted, while vouchers and credit memos can only be used with that vendor. Partners who track the form, not just the amount, can value their incentives accurately and confirm each was received as agreed.

Not usually. A credit memo can only be applied against future purchases with that vendor, while a cash bonus is unrestricted income.
