What Is Sell-In (Channel)?

Sell-in is the volume a partner purchases from a vendor or distributor into its own inventory - sales "into" the channel. It is distinct from what the partner later sells onward. Many volume and growth rebates are measured on sell-in, because they reward the partner's purchasing commitment.

Why it matters to partners. Sell-in is the basis for a large share of purchase-driven rebates, so knowing your sell-in position against each target tells you whether one more order crosses a threshold. It also has to be reconciled against sell-through and inventory: buying in to hit a rebate target only pays off if the product eventually sells, so sell-in decisions are best made with the full picture.

Effectively yes - sell-in is the partner's purchases from the vendor or distributor, viewed from the channel's perspective.
