What Is a Category (Rebates)?

A category is a broad product grouping - such as networking, storage, compute or security - used to organize a portfolio and the programs built on it. In rebate management, categories provide a higher-level view than SKUs or product families for setting targets, comparing performance and reporting across vendors.

Why it matters to partners. Categories are the level at which partners and finance often think about the business: which areas are growing, where rebate is concentrated, which vendors compete in the same category. Consistent category mapping across vendors lets a partner compare programs that use different internal labels, and roll rebate up into a picture leadership can act on.

Because each vendor names things differently. A common category layer lets you compare and consolidate rebate across all of them.
