What Is a Rebate Underpayment?

A rebate underpayment is when a vendor pays a partner less than the rebate the partner actually earned. It can come from a calculation error, ineligible items wrongly excluded, a missed milestone, or a rebate split incorrectly across periods - and it stays invisible until earned is compared against paid.

Why it matters to IT channel partners. Underpayments are common enough to matter and quiet enough to miss. When a partner accepts the vendor's payment on trust, an underpayment is simply absorbed as a smaller-than-expected rebate. Calculating what was earned independently turns the underpayment into a documented variance the partner can dispute - with the line-level evidence that gets it corrected.

By comparing each payment against the rebate they independently calculated as earned. The difference is the underpayment, with the detail needed to dispute it.
